Ecommerce, or online buying and selling of goods and services, started in the Philippines in the early 2000s. However, it was not until the mid-2000s that ecommerce began to gain traction in the country.
One of the earliest ecommerce websites in the Philippines was Sulit.com.ph, which was launched in 2006. It was later rebranded as OLX.ph. Other notable ecommerce websites that emerged during this period include eBay.ph, Multiply.com, and AyosDito.ph.
In recent years, the ecommerce industry in the Philippines has seen significant growth due to factors such as the increasing popularity of online shopping, the rise of mobile devices, and the expansion of internet access. Some of the leading ecommerce players in the Philippines today include Lazada, Shopee, Zalora, and GrabMart.
