In this article, we will learn in detail about the documents required for GST registration in India. So if you are willing to sell your product online or you are planning to set up an online business, GST resolution is a must. Before GST registration, you must have got your company registration done, whether it’s a proprietorship, private limited, or partnership firm.
Any business person or any organization with an annual aggregate turnover of more than Rs. 20 lakh, who makes a taxable supply of goods or services to individuals in India must register for GST.
In addition to meeting the aggregate turnover requirements, a person may register for GST if they engage in interstate supply of goods or services, already have an active VAT, service tax, or central excise registration, or both.
Note: The combined turnover threshold was cut to Rs. 10 lakh in various special category states, including Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, and North-Eastern State.
In general, these are the types of documents that you will be required to submit while doing the GST registration online.
For the Proprrotorship firm PAN card of the owner will be required. In the case of private limited companies or LLPs with multiple directors, all the directors should be submitting their PAN card details.
You will be required to submit a passport-size photograph whose size should be less than 100 KB. The image format should be JPG.
In case it’s a proprietorship form then you need to submit the owner’s Aadhar card only. But in the case of private limited and LLP, all the director’s Aadhar cards would be required.
Bank Account details are not mandatory at the time of applying for GST registration. But for the commencement of business, you need to submit your bank passbook or your bank account statement.

Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is basically required to sign invoices and file GST in a secure manner. While applying for GST registration, you can submit your application by either using the DSC or EVC (Electronic Verification Code).
You can do the registration with the EVC option but in the future, you will need a DSC for filing work.
As mentioned above, GST is compulsory for anybody or a business that is involved in interstate supplies of goods or services. So in the case of eCommerce, sellers basically sell their products all over India.
So there is the involvement of Interstate supplies of goods which is why every seller needs to apply and register for GST as soon as they start running their business.
The second most important factor for eCommerce sellers is that GST will be required if they want to sell on any marketplace like Amazon, Flipkart, Misho, Paytm, etc.
Even if you decide to sell through your own website then also you will be requiring GST because for integrating with multiple logistic companies and payment gateways, you have to submit your GST.
So in the case of online selling, the annual turnover criteria is not applicable.
