Ecommerce, or electronic commerce, was introduced in the 1970s with the advent of electronic data interchange (EDI), which allowed businesses to exchange electronic documents such as purchase orders and invoices. However, the first online shopping system was introduced in 1991 by the Internet Commerce Association, and the first online transaction occurred the same year when a man named Phil Brandenberger purchased a Sting CD from his computer in New Hampshire using his credit card. In the following years, the growth of the internet and advancements in technology have made ecommerce increasingly popular and accessible to businesses and consumers worldwide.
