Unregistered Sellers will be able to Sell Online
With effect from October 1, 2023, e-commerce sellers dealing in goods and services with annual sales of up to Rs. 40 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh, respectively, but who are not registered under the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act, will be permitted to do intra-state supplies, the GST Council announced on Saturday. The 48th GST council meeting presided over by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, “approved the amendments in the GST Act and GST Rules, along with the issuance of relevant notifications, to enable the same.”
The GST Council adopted the changes to the GST Act and GST Rules that, under certain restrictions, will permit composition taxpayers and unregistered suppliers to sell online without GST but only for intra-state sales of commodities through E-Commerce Operators (ECOs) like Amazon and Flipkart.
This choice will enable small business owners who fall under the GST threshold restriction to grow through online sales, which will significantly advance Digital India’s mission.
India is quickly becoming a global center for e-commerce, and online sales are booming.
In India, e-commerce now accounts for about 10% of all retail sales.
So presently, all the unregistered business persons need to wait until October 2023 to get started with their online journey without registering for GST.
